Google Chrome OS on Netbooks

Monday 23 November 2009 @ 4:00 am

Last week, we heard that the Google Chrome OS might not be compatible with older laptops and netbooks, well as we are well aware when it comes to what these big companies say and to what can actually happen in the real world are completely different matters.

It would appear that with a little bit of jigging around the developer open source version of the OS has no problem running on a netbook.

However, when the proper consumer version of Chrome comes out towards the end of the year that will be a different story all together.

Transfer LP’s and cassettes to CD

Monday 23 November 2009 @ 2:41 am

It sounds like some sort of steampunked device that has been invested to cope with the needs of just one person.

However, this is a serious piece of equipment that could change the lives of a lot of people that have large collections of LP’s and cassettes. However, are worried to listen to them just in case anything happens to them and they are gone forever.

Features – More than just a recorder, the system plays 33s, 45s, 78s, and cassettes through a 70mm full-range speaker, and has a built-in AM/FM stereo with digital tuner and single CD playback tray, all in a footprint less than 2′ sq. Two RCA inputs in the rear enable you to connect the device to another stereo system or external speakers. Includes automatic/manual track, increment control, record-level indicator, record-level control, backlit LCD, and remote control that requires two AA batteries. Needle plays LPs for up to 50 hours before requiring replacement. Plugs into AC. 9″ H x 19″ W x 15″ D. (23 lbs.) Priced at $399.95

ASUS U20 12.1″ Laptop!

Sunday 22 November 2009 @ 1:18 pm

asus-u-20

ASUS U20 (or UL20) 12.1″ laptop is one of the most versatile laptops you can get for the money.

Currently the U20 comes with an array of options such as a long battery life of 7.5 hours, 1.3GHz Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo Processor, and 2GB or 4GB of memory depending on which model you get.

On Amazon, there’s two models ASUS U20A-A1($569.99) and ASUS U20A-B2($969.03).   The basic difference in price range comes down to hard disk space and memory size.

The UL20A-A1 comes with 2GB of memory and 250GB of harddisk space while the UL20A-B2 comes with 4GB of memory and 320GB of harddisk.

For what it’s worth I would rather get the UL20A-A1 and add additional memory plus external hard drive if needed.  It seems like a much better value for your money.

Of course, if you are willing to spare a bit bigger screen, you might want to go with the ASUS UL30 series, which comes with an 8-cell battery with 12-16 hours of battery life.

As a current owner of an ASUS Eee PC, I can tell you these ASUS laptops are well worth it for the money and the long-life of its batteries over others brands out there.

One thing I love about ASUS laptops in general is that the new ones all come with touchpad that lets you scroll/zoom like an iPhone, a feature missed on most other brands.

Older netbooks won’t get Google OS

Friday 20 November 2009 @ 5:00 am

The all new and ultra performing operating system from Google may seem like a great idea for a lot of computer users who want to upgrade their OS but for one reason or another, they do not want to use a Windows system.

However, if the user owns an older netbook will not be able to download the Google Chrome Operating System, this is because the OS will only work on ARM and X86 chips!
