Garmin, ASUS form partnership for phones, nuvifone G60 first model

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 11:54 pm

We knew the nuvifone was an ASUS-sourced piece , but who knew the partnership was going to run so deep? Garmin and ASUS have joined hands to create the Garmin-Asus strategic alliance with the goal of designing and producing a whole line of co-branded handsets. The first model will be what we’ve come to know so well over the past year simply as “the nuvifone,” but it’ll be branded as the nuvifone G60 by the time it actually comes to market in the first half of the year. Several Garmin-Asus phones are expected in 2009, and it sounds like the second model in the series will be announced at MWC later this month.

Windows 7 Will Also Come In Six Flavors

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 11:34 pm

By Luke Anderson Variety is the spice of life, or so the saying goes. Unfortunately for the uneducated, having too many choices can just be confusing. Such was the case with Windows Vista. There were six versions of the software, which were aimed at six different specific markets

Mousetrap Coffee Table Is Both Creepy And Awesome

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 11:28 pm

By Luke Anderson Mousetraps are usually pretty basic gadgets. You generally either find the old wooden ones with a spring-loaded bar, or some plastic one that keeps them alive. Either way, you stick them somewhere out of the way and check on them every now and then to see if you’ve caught one. Well here’s a mousetrap that goes against all conventional thinking. First, this trap is actually a table

FujiFilm’s 12 megapixel F200EXR camera promises a revolution, might just deliver

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 11:25 pm

Meet the FujiFilm FinePix F200 EXR, the company’s first camera to host its new 1/1.6-inch Super CCD EXR sensor revealed back in September. The sensor promises high resolution, high sensitivity, and a wide dynamic range without the noise typical of these compact shooters. Spec-wise, we’re looking at a 12 megapixel resolution, 3-inch LCD, 28-mm wide-angle 5x zoom lens with CCD-shift stabilization, a 5fps burst mode and 640 x 480 video recording in AVI (Motion JPEG) format, support for SD/SDHC and xD Picture Card storage, and plenty of automatic shooting modes as well as manual control over the shutter speed and aperture. No word on pricing or release but we can’t wait for the reviews on this one. Until then, you’ll have to settle for the preview over at Lets Go Digital .

Google Latitude: Friend Finding Maps on Smartphones and PCs [Google]

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 10:01 pm

Google’s released Latitude, a Maps tool that allows for automatic tracking of friends in real time, using a laptop, Symbian 60, Blackberry, WinMo and soon, iPhone or Android. Laptops and cellphones (when not using GPS) can locate to a fair level of accuracy using geotagged Wi-Fi and cellular tower points in a database that Google’s collected on its own, perhaps while doing Streetview photography. Or you can set your location manually. Google told me that there’s no set standard for how often the map updates your location

House With Motorized Walls Changes Its Entire Look With the Push of a Button [Architecture]

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 9:30 pm

Dezeen posted on this crazy looking house built in Suffolk, England, which is actually three separate structures, and a garage that are unified by a sliding wall which can envelop them together. Designed by Architecture firm dRMM, the outer wall of the house moves along a 28 meter track and can sit over any part of main house’s 16-meters linear frame, or move to cover any part of the 7-meter annex, or the open space in front of the 5 meter garage
