Samsung attempts to set world record for fastest texting while skydiving

Saturday 20 December 2008 @ 10:01 pm

We’re not sure if this is meant to prove that texting on Samsung’s line of handsets is remarkably quick or if the ten individuals selected to text quickly whilst skydiving are just amazing multitaskers, but either way, the exercise has been executed.

Mac Mini "leak" causes excitement, ennui

Saturday 20 December 2008 @ 8:27 pm

Macenstein receives a pic from an anonymous sauce, and the internet goes OMG. Then someone points out the problem: why would a Mac Mini have a lid ? Why would it be made of MacBook ? To my mind, the marketing line is unappealing (”World’s smallest potato”) and lacks Apple’s characteristic wordplay.

New iMac, Mac mini looking more probable after minute discovery

Saturday 20 December 2008 @ 7:05 pm

Rumors of a new Mac mini or iMac have been floated (and denied) for a while now, but one ferocious investigator’s feasted his eyes on a few pieces of rather telling evidence recently. A poster on the InsanelyMac forums found some code in his new MacBook which referred to “iMac9,1 and Macmini3,1″ which would seem to indicate that a newer version — current iMacs and Mac minis are marked iMac8,1 and Macmini2,1 — if both products are on the horizon. The new identifiers also list both as having “CFG_MCP7″ chipsets — the same NIVIDIA set used in the new Macbooks (current minis have Intel GMA 950 chipsets while iMacs have NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS GPUs)

How it’s Made: Engine Blocks

Saturday 20 December 2008 @ 6:56 pm

If you’ve always wondered how engine blocks were manufactured, then check out this How it’s Made segment. We have to admit, the process is a lot more complex then we had initially thought. Video after the break. The cylinder block or engine block is a machined casting (or sometimes an assembly of modules) containing cylindrically bored holes for the pistons of a multi-cylinder reciprocating internal combustion engine, or for a similarly constructed device such as a pump.

Will there or won’t there be a T-Mobile G2 in the near future?

Saturday 20 December 2008 @ 6:10 pm

T-Mobile and HTC are clearly both pretty committed to Android — and cheers to that, may we add — but the real question is: is the “G” series a franchise or a one-hit wonder? And if it’s a franchise, just how soon might we see a G2? Logic would suggest that T-Mobile would want to give the G1 a little breathing room before piling on cousins that risk cannibalizing market share, but Cell Phone Signal is claiming we’ll see the G2 next month, and what’s more, the spec sheet reads like a dream: 5-megapixel autofocus primary cam with VGA secondary cam for video calling, full touchscreen, and WiFi — in other words, something like the “Touch HD with Android” that everyone had been hoping for. Come on now, video calling? Seriously?
