MySpace Puts The Hammer Down On Project Playlist (Michael Arrington/TechCrunch)

Friday 19 December 2008 @ 9:25 pm

Michael Arrington / TechCrunch : MySpace Puts The Hammer Down On Project Playlist   —  MySpace is getting back into the business of blocking third party widgets, it seems – today they’ve banned embedded music widgets from the fast growing Project Playlist.  But unlike previous 2006 and 2007 blocks of iMeem, Photobucket and many others …

First Blu-ray Disc / DVD hybrid announced in Japan

Friday 19 December 2008 @ 8:06 pm

It sure took long enough to happen, but one of HD DVD’s biggest benefits has finally made it over to the Blu-ray side. Yep, we’re talking about a Blu-ray / DVD hybrid disc, with a single-layer of Blu on one side and a standard DVD on the very same side (as in, not a “flipper” disc). Not surprisingly, the action’s going down first in Japan, with Code Blue emergency helicopter doctor Blu-ray BOX (yes, seriously) as the first hybrid title.

IBM claims title of world’s fastest graphene transistor

Friday 19 December 2008 @ 6:51 pm

As we’ve seen, plenty of researchers and companies are betting on graphene as being the big thing that will revolutionize transistors and, hence, all manner of electronics, and it looks like IBM is now claiming one of the biggest breakthroughs to date, not to mention the desirable title of “world’s fastest graphene transistor.” More specifically, IBM researchers have apparently been the first to demonstrate the operation of graphene field-effect transistors at gigahertz frequencies and, apparently even more importantly, they’ve also established the scaling behavior of the graphene transistors, which they say could eventually lead to the development of terahertz graphene transistors — or, in other word’s, keep Moore’s Law around for quite a bit longer than many expected. Filed under: Misc. Gadgets IBM claims title of world’s fastest graphene transistor originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 19 Dec 2008 20:51:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds

Can Young Kirk Really Survive the Car Jump In the New Star Trek? [Star Trek]

Friday 19 December 2008 @ 6:40 pm

PopSci’s Adam Weiner did some calculations to see if young Kirk could survive the car jump in the new Star Trek trailer. Adam’s wrong. We have the real answer in our own video. According to Adam, he would have needed to apply a force of 3,900 Newtons with his fingers to stop from falling.
