Apple Broadens App Store Acceptance, Approves ‘Pull My Finger’ (Arn/MacRumors)

Friday 12 December 2008 @ 9:25 pm

Arn / MacRumors : Apple Broadens App Store Acceptance, Approves ‘Pull My Finger’   —  One of the major criticisms of the App Store has been a seemingly arbitrary rejection policy on the part of Apple.  Air-o-Matic was one of the developers rejected by Apple for the reason of “limited utility” for his humor app “Pull My Finger”.

Remember to Back Up: HP Deletes Your Data for the Letter "P" [Hp]

Friday 12 December 2008 @ 7:30 pm

It should be common sense to back up whenever sending the laptop off to be fixed, even for something small. According to Consumerist , one unlucky reader learned the hard way. While there is no official HP policy on erasing the hard drive for minor hardware defects, its something that might want to be kept in mind when you send your laptop in. One of Consumerist’s readers, Marjan, decided to send his computer in for repair when one of the keys egregiously decided to pop off. The laptop came back with a spanking new “P” but all of Marjan’s data had been wiped clean

Waterflux Art Museum Is Clearly an Alien Cockroach Nest [Architecture]

Horrific yet incredibly intriguing is the only way I can describe this spiked and gelatinous alien nest that mimics the landscape around it.

Now that you’ve seen go-karts tear up the streets, the only thing that could top that would be taking a Formula 1 car on a grand tour of San Paulo, Brazil. Video after the break

Lil Drum and Bass Bot Never Goes Anywhere Without His Theme Music [Robots]

Friday 12 December 2008 @ 7:00 pm

YouTube may be full of robots, but few as charming as this little drummer bot. Armed with a rudimentary pill-jar plastic drum and a beep-bop-boop synthesizer, he somehow gets quite the groove on. The Lil Drum and Bass Bot’s creator Calculon320 claims only humble aspirations for the little $50 beat box—”plays his drum, provides his own soundtrack, simple object avoidance”—but there’s an awesomeness here that puts even the Wall-E toys to shame. Not only can he parumpapumpum with the best of them with his two swivel-action drumsticks, responding to tempo changes up to a super-vibrating roll, but in “object avoidance” mode, he can stroll up to a Lego Duplo brick or a wall and just start beating the hell out of it. To the rhythm

New iPod Touch Ad Thinks Outside the Frame

Friday 12 December 2008 @ 6:59 pm

Unlike other Apple ads, this one “features an iPod touch being tilted to and fro during gameplay, but each tilt affects various elements on the actual Yahoo webpage.” Video after the break. As Adage reports, Apple is running a major new iPod touch gaming ad campaign on http://games.yahoo.com/ that goes a bit…beyond…the traditional website banner ad. [via Toucharcade ]

One-Seat Sports Car Has Fighter Jet Canopy

Friday 12 December 2008 @ 6:56 pm

“The Hawk” is essentially a one-seat sports car that’s “powered by a Honda RC51 V-twin 999cc engine, with a redline of 10,000rpm, 120RWhp and a theoretical top speed of 233 kilometers per hour.” Click here for first picture in gallery. BlackBerry: $20, McCain-Palin’s Contacts: Priceless [BlackBerry]

Friday 12 December 2008 @ 6:49 pm

In order to get back some of the money spent on the McCain-Palin campaign, items from the campaign were sold today at a yard sale, including a $20 BlackBerry, fully loaded with confidential information. When reporters from Fox 5 stopped by the McCain-Palin headquarters today, they were excited to find BlackBerry phones being sold for $20 each. Because the phones came with dead batteries and no chargers, it was only after the reporters had returned to their office and had charged the phones when they realized what $20 actually bought them
