HP Mini 1000 to get $40 price cut

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 8:25 pm

What’s this? A $40 price cut on an item that’s likely on at least one gift list that you’re currently staring at? Huzzah! Unless, of course, you’re one of those proactive individuals who went out and already nabbed one. In all seriousness, Laptoping has reportedly received an email notification from Hewlett-Packard that the sleek and sexy Mini 1000 netbook will stoop to $359.99 starting tomorrow.

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 6:00 pm

This rumor has been popping up and hitting me in the face all day, from all angles. Wired , Boy Genius , and Engadget have all reported it as a strong rumor, while some sites are claiming it as fact. What’s the story? The story is, there is no story. At least, not yet.

Carbon fiber door boasts biometric scanner, $15,000 sticker

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 5:36 pm

Being the home cinema fanatics that we are, we’d much rather spend around two large to snag one of QuietHome’s THX-certified doors , but our love for all things biometric still manages to make this one tug on our delicate heartstrings. Masterfully crafted by the carbon fiber gurus at Brazil’s own Chaote Carbon, this 99-pound, 7.5- x 4.9-foot door was carefully wrapped in carbon fiber and equipped with a biometric scanner to keep unwelcome guests waiting in the rain. We can’t say we totally see the value proposition considering the $15,000 price tag, but we get the idea the buyer here probably has more money than he can figure out how to spend. At Giz Gallery: Mars In 3D On Our Giant TV [Gizmodo Gallery]

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 5:25 pm

We just put up some 3D images taken by the Phoenix Mars Lander on our 103-inch plasma, handed out some old school anaglyph glasses, queued up “Life On Mars?” and took a look for ourselves. You may remember Phoenix’s farewell transmission from Mars—thankfully, before it sailed off into the cosmic space robot afterlife, it grabbed some stereo images with its camera, which were converted into 3D and sent over to us by our friends at JPL for use in the gallery. We’re about to close up shop for tonight, but we’ll be back tomorrow from 11am-4pm. It’s our last day, so come on over! We’ll put up the Mars images again if you ask all nice and friendly like

The Blip Festival: Like Girl Talk and a Game Boy Had a Baby [Mods]

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 5:00 pm

Brooklyn’s Blip Festival 2008 , which is taking place this weekend, December 4th through 7th, is a celebration of modders, music, vintage game consoles, and graphics. Artists come from all over the world to perform electronic music created with Game Boys, Commodore 64s, and Famicoms, and it’s more than just bleeps and bloops: this stuff is really fun

iFauxne Roundup: Apple Ripoffs Just Keep Getting Worse [Crapple]

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 4:15 pm

Today in shady Chinese electronics manufacturer news, we’ve got a whopping three iPhonies vying for your (counterfeit?) dollars. iFone, which isn’t another of my clever puns but is actually a very brazenly-named company, announced the iFone 3G and the two-for-one ripoff iFone X1. Meizu, who wins the dubious title of the classiest in the bunch, has finally made its M8 official on its website. The iFone X1 looks like a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, but with a touchscreen and without a QWERTY keyboard. The interface, however, is still an iClone, which doesn’t even make sense

Sharp 720p DLP Projector to Clock In at Under $1000 [Projectors]

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 2:45 pm

Sharp’s expanding its WXGA line with the PG-F255W projector, packing 1280×800 resolution, Sharp’s BrilliantColor tech, 2,200:1 contrast ratio, 2,500 ANSI Lumens, Ethernet, variable audio line-out, and a USB port. It’s a lot for not so much cash, coming in at less than $1000. It looks like it’s designed for classrooms but there’s nothing in the specs that’d disqualify it from being a pretty decent home theater projector. And at the stated sub-$1000 price when it’s released this month, it’s hard to find too much fault with it

Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector finds draft areas in your abode

Saturday 6 December 2008 @ 2:41 pm

This one’s been around the block a time or two, but sadly, it still won’t be available for use as an in-law stocking stuffer . Black & Decker’s $39.99 TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector packs an infrared sensor that can detect where cool air is being let in around older windows, doors, etc.
