Sharp introduces PG-F255W 720p DLP projector for under $1,000

Friday 5 December 2008 @ 11:40 pm

Nah, it’s no 1080p , but if 720p will do ya, Sharp ’s got a new one you should consider. The PG-F255W DLP beamer packs a WXGA resolution (1,280 x 800), BrilliantColor technology, 2,500 ANSI lumens, a 2,200:1 contrast ratio, DVI / VGA inputs, integrated speakers, RS-232C / USB sockets, Ethernet and a variable audio line-out. The PJ is geared for more commercial applications (think education, churches, board rooms, etc.), but we don’t see any reason why it won’t handle your home cinema needs just fine.

SIM / hardware-unlocked Android Dev Phone 1 surfaces for $399

Friday 5 December 2008 @ 9:36 pm

Oh, snap! Out of seemingly nowhere, Google has revealed the Android Dev Phone 1, a SIM- and hardware-unlocked G1 designed to be sold exclusively to hard working developers . The handset ships with a system image that’s fully compatible with Android 1.0, and obviously, it complies with any SIM card and can “flash custom Android builds that will work with the unlocked bootloader.” In other words, the mobile should seriously appeal to devs who live far, far away from areas blanketed with T-Mobile coverage. In order to get one, you must first register as an Android developer on the Android Market site (which involves a one-time $25 setup fee ); once you’re in, you simply surf over and nail the “Purchase” link. For $399 (including free shipping in the US of A), this swanky G1 — custom back and all — can be yours, and it’s scheduled to ship in 18 international markets soon.

Uncle Milton Pet’s Eye View Camera Lightning Review [Lightning Review]

Friday 5 December 2008 @ 7:00 pm

The Gadget: The Uncle Milton Pet’s Eye View cam is a low-res interval-timed camera designed to clip to the collar of a dog or cat, under the assumption your pet’s life has some vaguely interesting non-eating/sleeping/pooing component. The Price : $40 The Verdict : It’s only as good as your pet’s social life, but I actually recommend it for outdoor critters and social city beasts. As a fan of National Geographic’s Crittercam , I was excited when Uncle Milton sent over the pet’s eye view camera. NG of course attached their cameras to penguins, whales and lions; attaching this product to our domestic lion, Wade Bob Rothman, wouldn’t be the same thing for many reasons: • It’s a still cam—no video—so the footage is limited. • Though it seems to have pretty high ISO, the camera’s no good when there’s no light

Creepiest NES Commercial Ever

Friday 5 December 2008 @ 6:58 pm

This NES commercial from the 80’s just might be the creepiest one we’ve ever seen. Let’s just say that it’s a cross between a horror flick and/or a bad game ending.

Creative Bench Advertisements

What better way to advertise your company or service than on something that just about everybody will use. To start, we have a creative ad by Emirates Today, showing that a good newspaper doesn’t have to be large in size — though the bench doesn’t look very comfortable

Keepin’ it real fake, part CLXX: the highly confused (and confusing) iFone x1

Friday 5 December 2008 @ 6:31 pm

How would you improve the XPERIA X1 ? If you answered, “remove the keyboard and add a mangled iPhone UI,” then the iFone x1 will be right right up your alley. Of course, this ain’t the first phony X1 we’ve seen, but it might be our fave. What can we say about this one

Nvidia Badaboom and ATI Avivo GPU Video Transcoders Battle to the Death [Video]

Friday 5 December 2008 @ 6:30 pm

Dedicated graphics cards from ATI and Nvidia used to be critical just for gamers and pros, but now they do a lot more than make splattered guts look good. Like make video transcoding really fast . PC Perspective compared GPU-powered video transcoding programs from ATI and Nvidia—Avivo and Badaboom, respectively, which work exclusively with their own graphics cards. The Nvidia Badaboom transcoder wins on interface, looks and ease of use, though you need an Nvidia card that supports CUDA, limiting it to relatively recent GPUs.
