N96 and N78 get Fring support

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 2:57 pm

Bummed out because the N78 doesn’t offer VoIP compatability right out of the box ? Fear not – Fring has got you covered. Apparently using their own VoIP client rather than the Nokia-made client (which Nokia decided not to build into the latest N-series devices) required by other services, Fring has added support for both the N78 and the N96.

Nokia falls short of their own predictions for Q3

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 2:35 pm

Anybody hedging bets on Nokia’s Q3 market share results at the local mobile market gambling hall based off of the company’s previous predictions might want to see if they can weasel their way out. Where as Nokia previously predicted that their third quarter sales would be right on par with those of the second, they’re now warning folks that it may come in a bit lower than expected

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 2:25 pm

Are the digital tiaras, robots and other nicknacks that Facebook users can buy for their friends helping the social-network site rake in some dough? One venture capitalist, Jeremy Liew of Lightspeed Venture Partners, says yes

Free Press: Internet Too Important to Tie Up in Legal Limbo

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 1:43 pm

Communications Daily (subscription) reported today on the avalanche of lawsuits being filed challenging the FCC’s Comcast “net neutrality” order .   Four were filed this week in four different U.S. appeals circuits — the lucky court that will actually decide the case will be decided by lottery.

OLPC coming to Amazon in November!

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 12:28 pm

Our beloved OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) will be coming to Amazon in November.  I think this is a great idea as Amazon will help increase the sales of OLPC and ultimately help them invent more low-cost PCs for kids in 3rd world countries. Amazon.com will start selling XO laptops under the Give One, Get One program in late November. Sales will likely extend through the end of December.

Raon Digital’s Everun Note Netbook Laptop Video Review!

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 12:18 pm

Here’s a hands-on video review of Raon Digital’s Everun Notebook and we really like it a LOT. Raon Digital’s tiny 7-inch offering packs a 1.2GHz AMD Turion CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 12GB SSD. UMPC Portal’s hand model loves the size, build quality, features, and most notably the performance, but we’re still having a hard time getting over the $879 asking price, and that modified keyboard layout with punctuation keys in the upper-right would be a liability in our Friday night blogger WPM deathmatches.
